IF WORLD POWERS WERE CONCERNED WITH SAVING LIVES THEY WOULD BE TACKLING HUNGER WHICH IS THE NUMBER 1 KILLER IN THE WORLD CLAIMING 5 TIMES MORE LIVES IN 2020 THAN COVID. LOCKDOWN IS SET TO DRIVE UP HUNGER DEATHS IN 2021. IRISH GOVERNMENT NO LONGER HAS THE MORAL AUTHORITY TO CLAIM THAT THEIR RESPONSE TO COVID IS TO SAVE LIVES BECAUSE MORE PEOPLE ARE DYING FROM THE RESPONSE THAN FROM THE VIRUS.
According to the World Economic Forum starvation claims a child’s life every 3 seconds. (1)
If this is true an estimated 10.5 million children die annually from hunger related illnesses.
Heart disease is listed as the world’s number one killer. Yet it claimed 8.9 million deaths in 2019, a figure that is less than those who died from hunger.(7)
An estimated 2 million died globally from Covid-19 related illnesses in 2020. (6)
A UN report published in 2020 says world hunger is increasing.
Almost 690 million people went hungry in 2019 – up by 10 million from 2018, and by nearly 60 million in five years. The figures for 2020 are not available yet. (2)
It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that the havoc wrecked by lockdown is causing massive unemployment and people losing their businesses will escalate the number of people dying from hunger.
Long before the pandemic struck, Irish school teachers were warning about a rise in the number of children who were coming to school hungry. (3)
Children’s charity Barnardos were claiming in 2018 that one in nine Irish children go to bed hungry.(4)
This amounts to 100,000 children. (5)
Day in day out mainstream media bombards us with reports of children and coronavirus.
We hear about the spread of the virus in schools, facemasks and vaccinations.
Unless It has escaped my notice there hasn’t been a single mention in the Irish mainstream media in recent times about the devastating consequences of child hunger brought about by lockdown.
